I am the LORD, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images.
Isaiah 42:8, MEV
Nothing carved out of wood or stone, nor anything crafted or painted, is to be worshiped. This is the tendency of mankind. As Christians, we have our paintings and our statues to represent our Lord Jesus Christ and the saints, but we are to remember that none of the objects we create are God, nor should we worship them as if they are a true representation of God, but we worship the one true God – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our praise is to be directed to Him and Him alone. He alone saves, and He alone is worthy. When we turn our praise to another, we offend our Lord and place our trust in something that is bound to fail us. We do not worship the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth, fire, or wind. We worship the Creator and Savior of us all who entered His Creation so we may know Him and be redeemed by Him as He brings us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
