Acts 4:13

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:13, ESV

The giants of the faith were not special in the worldly sense. They were ordinary men and women who were not often at the top of society. God used shepherds and fishermen, carpenters and tax collectors, and widows and the foreign-born.  The Apostles were not highly educated men who graduated top of their class in seminary, they didn’t have any formal religious education in the eyes of society, but they walked with Jesus. There is something special that happens as people walk with Jesus. He tends to bring changes in their lives. Their thinking is shaped differently and their perspective changes. We are changed when we walk in the faith and come closer to our Lord. As the Word of God creeps into our thought processes and doors open that were not noticed before, God reveals things to help in the mission He has put in our lives. Most won’t be like the Apostles, going out and proclaiming the faith of Jesus Christ to places filled with danger. The majority will not become pastors leading congregations, but all followers of Christ have a calling to share the faith wherever it may be that God places them. The Word of God is meant to embolden us all to have the courage when necessary to share the faith and lead others to know Christ’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
