Romans 5:12

So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, so also death spread to all people because all sinned.

Romans 5:12, EHV

Sin is a human condition. Since the words of the serpent in the garden entered the ears of Eve, mankind's relationship with God has been tenuous. Our hearts are not naturally attuned to God. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve walked happily with God, but the moment after their failure, they hid from God. People began to distrust God’s Word more and more, and instead of seeing the cruelty caused by sin, they blamed God for the consequences of their sin. This is the world we live in today, looking forward to what is to come, as we have heard the promises of Jesus and know He will one day return. It isn’t God’s failure, but our own, that we struggle with day-by-day. What God created, He created perfectly, but sin has created defects. Heart disease, cancer, organ failures, and so on are not because of poor design, but a broken creation. This is not how it will always be because we who know the promise will one day come to see our Lord face-to-face, and all the flaws will be restored, and sin will be no more as we enter into our Lord’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
