Acts 4:12

“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:12, EHV

If we place our hope in anything other than the one true God, that is an idol. This is central to the Christian faith, but we often lose sight of this truth. If our hope is in our retirement, the economy, political parties and politicians, family members, or identity, we will find that all these things will eventually fail us. These idols are the traps that eventually cause shame and hopelessness to overcome us and draw us away from the only hope, as Satan whispers in our ears, “God won’t accept you.” Our Lord is always near with His arms open, ready to receive us into His embrace. The lies of the evil one infiltrate our hearts and distract our eyes from the eternal hope that is ever-present before us, establishing a wall in our hearts that separates us from the only hope we can truly rely upon. However, our Lord stands as a beacon leading us into His eternal peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
