In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
Luke 10:21, ESV
As children, everything is new and fresh. Our minds need to be molded, and training us how to see and understand the world around us is necessary. As we age, we become a little more rigid in our thinking and less open to new ideas or understanding. A “been there, done that” mentality may creep in, and we can come to believe that we are aware of everything. Being a Christian can become something we do instead of who we are and how we live our lives. Our Lord desires for our minds to remain open to His correction and teaching while trusting in Him and His providence. It can be easy to become cynical about people because of past hurts, and this can be an impediment in our relationship with Christ and others. Our Lord is seeking to always renew our hearts and our minds in His gracious will so we may know His peace and share Him with others caught up in the rigors of the world.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
