But a natural man does not accept the depths of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually examined. But he who is spiritual examines all things, yet he himself is examined by no one. For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL DIRECT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:14–16, LSB
Christ opens hearts and minds to understand better and discern the things of God, yet those caught up and bound in the world cannot interpret the things of God because their hearts are hardened, and their minds are confused. God opens our hearts and our minds to know and to read His Word. He builds within us and makes us into a new creation that no longer is as easily lost but makes us able to discern the will of the Father. It is freeing as one grows more spiritually attached to our Lord because the things that would bring judgment lessen. This does not mean that the spiritual person makes no errors because no one is righteous in the eyes of God, but hearts are more aligned with the will of the Father. As we walk with our Lord our eyes will see things differently and our hearts will discern things differently and be humble in heart in their concern for all creation, but the unspiritual will become self-righteous and haughty and feel they are above those who trust in the foolishness of God’s Word. Let your heart and your mind continually be opened in Christ and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
