Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 118:1, ESV

God is not whimsical. He doesn’t flitter back and forth on how He feels. His love is enduring and loyal. Unlike us, the love of God isn’t here one day and gone the next. He is ever loyal to His chosen and, though we fail Him, He doesn’t turn His back. This is the glory of God, who stands firm in His love and never lets us go. No one is so loyal as our God. This is contrary to the world where some turn away and leave you behind when you don’t agree with them. He will never betray us, though we may Him. For this, we are called to be ever thankful because we know He is good. Not just sometimes, but all of the time, He is good. His just nature does not waver, nor does He struggle in His love for us. We are His, broken and imperfect as we are. He calls us to Himself and binds our wounds as He seeks to heal us of all our infirmities. We can know His mercy because we know the tears of our Lord that fell at the tomb of Lazarus, and we can truly know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
