The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; You support my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; yes, an inheritance is beautiful for me.
Psalm 16:5–6, MEV
Our future is in the Lord our God. Some may feel that this is an obvious statement, and if asked, most would probably agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. Yet, how many truly live as if this is true? We have been chosen by God, not because we are truly special. We are not. Not because we are exceptionally holy. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we aren’t even good. God chooses us because of who He is. In His choosing lies a promise of being heirs to His kingdom. If we walk in this realization, we are changed, not by our hand, but by the hand of God who guides us and reveals His pathways to us. His hope for us is revealed, and the greater our reliance is on Him, the greater the blessings we will see. Hardships will no longer be as burdensome. Suffering will be easier to endure. Not because those who desire to cause us suffering are any easier on us, but because of who it is we rely on and in whose peace we reside.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
