Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will laud You. Thus I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with fatness and richness, And my mouth offers praises with lips of joyful songs.
Psalm 63:3–5, LSB
Have you ever pondered God’s love for you? Have you ever sat in awe as you worshipped God? This is what David was doing as he praised God. It isn’t that there won’t be struggles in life, but what David was doing and what we are being reminded of in these words is the glory that we can behold when we place God in the right place in our hearts. As we ponder the ways that God has been at work in our lives, and the steadfast love He pours out upon us. In a world full of discontent and the desire for the next best thing, it is good for us to be reminded of all the good things God has done and how much He truly loves us as His chosen. As we sit and praise God in these moments and reflect, we can feel our spirits lift and mood buoyed. The praise in our hearts can begin to drown out the drumming of the world’s distractions as we can focus in and worship our God who loves us. Our God, who gave of Himself for us. Our God, who entered Creation and became man, and knows all the things of this world that we feel. In this, we can find comfort and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
