First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.
1 Timothy 2:1, ESV
Begin everything with prayer. This is the desire that God has for us, but how often are we interrupted? The concerns of this world often keep us from spending time with our Lord and praying for all people. When Paul reminded Timothy to pray in his letter, he didn’t just ask Timothy to pray for him and all those in ministry with him, but for all people, including those who might wish to bring harm upon him and the whole Church. Prayer can change circumstances, but, most importantly, it changes our hearts. It redirects our focus. It develops us in our walk of faith and helps us on our journey to reflect our Lord in our lives. Prayer tames our tongues and eases our temperament. In our moments with Him as we pray, our consciences can be eased, and the stressors in our lives can be lessened. As is often said in prayer circles, pray first, pray last, pray always. In our times of prayer, we can find our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
