Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the might of His strength. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
Ephesians 6:10–11, LSB
We like to be confident in our salvation. We find comfort in believing that we are good. The reality of our lives is that we all struggle with sin. It plagues us, and this may cause us to doubt. Often, we are reminded in Scripture to be strong and courageous. We find many in Scripture being told, “Do not fear.” God saved many in Scripture not because they were necessarily strong and powerful, but because they believed in an all-powerful God. When we see problems arise within Scripture, it is often because saints attempt to do it all on their own. God desires for us to rely on Him and cover ourselves in the holy armor He provides for our protection. The battles we face are not ours to win, but we are often in the middle of them, and it is through our Lord and His protection that we may fend off the attacks of the evil one. Be in the Word, trust in His promises, rely upon His guarding, and be ready at all times to give an account of the faith we hold. Through all this, we may find our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
