1 Corinthians 9:22

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22, LSB

I remember times during my degree work when I listened to some of my professors, straining to grasp everything they said. It was hard to relate to the material at times because they were not attempting to make it relatable. There were some who I believe did so on purpose, but many may not have known. I have unknowingly done this and have appreciated it when people ask me to clarify because when I teach the Bible, I want people to understand. Paul wanted this, too. He knew that to teach and preach to others, he would need to preach and teach in a way that would be relatable to the various groups, he sought to place himself at the level of the people. No one likes to be talked down to and whether we are aware or not that we are talking in an unrelatable way doesn’t matter, the feeling is the same for the hearer. Paul wanted to always be relatable, so he studied the people he sought to reach before teaching and preaching so the message he was sharing would be heard by most as he intended. This was not a changing of the Gospel but presenting the Gospel in the proper perspective for the hearer. As Paul did, let us carry the unchanging Gospel to an ever-changing culture so that more may know salvation and know our Lord’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
