Ephesians 4:22

As far as your former way of life is concerned, you were taught to take off the old self, which is corrupted by its deceitful desires.

Ephesians 4:22, EHV

A heart held captive by the Holy Spirit will change. Sin is offensive to one who has been claimed by Christ. Does that mean that a Christian will not sin? By no means!. A Christian will sin, but when confronted with that sin, once made aware of sin, the heart of a follower of Christ will be brought to repentance. This is evident throughout Scripture. The actions of repentance, however, begin with the Holy Spirit. It is not a self-created reaction. When one professes faith, it is vital to watch the changes that God will make within them. They can be subtle, but it is amazing to watch how the Holy Spirit transforms another. This is the power of transformation that our Lord brings as He removes from us the trappings of our old, sinful selves, leading us away from the desires that once drove us, and creates in us something new as He leads us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
