Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.
1 Timothy 5:17, ESV
Church leadership is a calling meant to be honored, especially for those who remain faithful and unwavering in living out the word of God while teaching and preaching it with purity and integrity. It can be easier for a person to remain silent or not say things that could upset people, yet to say the hard words with love and compassion because it is what God desires to be said, so that others may be restored. Paul knew the trouble that standing steadfast in truth meant, yet he did not stop. Paul taught and proclaimed God’s word to those who imprisoned him, and it wouldn’t be beyond the pale to say he did so until the moment his mouth was stopped as his life was taken. As followers of Christ, the reminder is to hold those who take up the mantle of leadership with respect, and for those who lead in Christ to be faithful in their study of the word of God and to hold fast to good doctrine to ensure that all is done with integrity. God’s calling is not unclear, and His message is one which we all would do well to listen to. Be thankful for faithful leaders and trust in Christ’s promises, knowing that He is the bearer of peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
