Have this way of thinking in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although existing in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a slave, by being made in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5–7, LSB
Christ’s humble way is how we are to practice our Christian faith. The only man who has ever walked the earth with a perfect theological understanding is our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. He did not laud His godliness over anyone, but humbly offered positive correction to those caught up in sin and guided those searching for Him gently to walk in His ways. His humble nature is the nature we are called to reflect as we are all slaves to sin who are in need of the Son to free us from the bondage we find ourselves within and bind us to Him. Our bound nature will never be removed. The only difference in the states to which we are called is to whom we find ourselves bound. There are those who believe in the idea that right doctrine is the only means to salvation, but the only means we may find is through Christ and Christ alone as we cling to the promises given to us by Him through the sacred and holy Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. In these, we find our constant reminder of the work our Lord has done for us and can truly walk in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
