Romans 3:20

For by works of the Law no human being will be justified in His sight, since through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:20, ESV

What’s the first thing you do when driving and you pass a law enforcement officer? Most would probably look at their speedometer to make sure that they weren’t going too much over the speed limit. If the officer pulls behind for many, the heart will race, and blood pressure will rise. When made aware of the Law, our nature is to feel some level of restriction, and our response is either to comply or rebel. Yet, the Law will never save. It can make one feel justified for a moment, but there is always an oppressive side to the Law that makes us aware of where we don’t always get it right. We don’t always do the right thing. We fail. Jesus came to redeem us from this. He doesn’t justify our shortcomings. He doesn’t excuse us from our failings. Jesus forgives, renews, and leads us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
