Let your considerate spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:5–6, LSB
Once, while visiting some friends in Boca Raton, my family and I stayed at a hotel, and I remember a scene at the front desk where a man was yelling at the clerk, “Don’t you know who I am!?!” The arrogance of this man as he berated this young woman. Over a decade has passed since I witnessed this, but, sadly, this sort of thing is more and more common. Our Lord calls us to be humble and thoughtful of how we treat people. Our tongues are to be bridled, and our words reigned in so we may be kinder and gentler in our treatment of others. As we go out into the world, we are to be watchful of how we treat others in our words and actions. When confronted with the thoughtless nature of another person, we are to pray and ask our Lord to help us in those moments as we seek to reflect Christ and His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
