With the kind You show Yourself kind; With the blameless You show Yourself blameless;
Psalm 18:25, LSB
Have you ever wondered why some people have an odd view of God? For those unwilling to submit to our Lord, they may find Him to be troublesome and disconcerting, but our Lord calls us to be different in our living, and for that reason, believers will often see the merciful and gracious side of our God. If one does not wish to submit to God, they may see God as being a big rule maker who seeks to go after rule breakers, and the terrors of Hell fill their heads and hearts. Yet, as we submit ourselves to the rule of our Lord, laws are not as prevalent as we are greeted with His kind and faithful care. The shifting sands of society have less sway over our lives, and we find ourselves with a firm footing on the rock of our Lord. The angry, faceless god of nature is replaced by the loving Lord of the Cross and the salvation given to us through Him. The waving finger is transformed into the open arms of the Father awaiting the return of His prodigal. As we look upon God with eyes of faith, we are shown His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
