The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:10, ESV
If all you hunger for is fame, riches, and power, you will never be truly satisfied. God desires our hearts and minds. Young lions are never satisfied and only seek to fill their bellies; we can see this mindset in our world. As we seek after the heart of God and desire to do His will, we will find ourselves filled with greater contentment. As the fruit of the Spirit grows within us, suffering will not be unsettling but understood as a part of the process. These verses are not a promise of the easy life, but a life lived easily with God. If God is our only satisfaction, then the powers of this world have little attraction. Our yearning is not driven by greater want but by greater service. The good things in life become more than anything the world has to offer. The life of the faithful is often viewed as more challenging by the world; a simple reading of the Bible reveals this reality. Yet, the peace that abounds in living a life seeking the Lord and desiring to serve Him, and it is this peace that our good Lord desires for us to always live within.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
