Song of Solomon 3:2

‘I must arise now and go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I must seek him whom my soul loves.’ I sought him but did not find him.

Song of Solomon 3:2, LSB

Does your heart ache for God? Do you awake yearning to know Him more? Many are familiar with this yearning as their beloved is away from them. The heart chases after them and looks forward to the next moment that they are once again rejoined. This is a yearning we may also have for our Lord as we seek to know Him more within our lives. Just as it is in our human relationships, so does our God desire of us with Him. His praises close to our lips, and our thoughts never far from Him. As we develop a yearning to know Him more, the greater our witness will be for Him with others. The desire to share our love of the Lord becomes more natural. Our worship is also transformed as it is out of a sincere devotion and not out of obligation. The fire ignited like the flames placed upon those first to receive the Holy Spirit on that first Pentecost that drove them out into the street, so is the calling for us all as His chosen, only finding comfort in the knowledge of Him and here finding His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
