“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19–20, LSB
We are a sent people! Our Lord commanded the early Church to go out and make disciples of all nations. We do this through baptism and teaching them the Word of God so they may follow the Lord and be faithful in His commands. The Word is our source for all the teachings of our Lord and belief in the Word is vital for us and those we are meant to teach. Thankfully, we are not alone in this process because our Lord promises to always be with us, “even to the end of the age.” What does this mean? We are not alone in this process. The Holy Spirit is with us to help us in our belief and to create belief in those whom we teach. We cannot make another believe and belief is shown in trusting in the Word of God. It is hard to teach someone who rejects Scripture. There are various interpretations of portions of Scripture that one could argue are open for discussion but even in those the Word is not rejected. If confronted with such things our words should not convey judgment or condemnation, but we can show concern and pray for the other knowing it is not us who create faith. We are a people sent out as a light in the darkness and our Lord walks with us as we teach so all who seek the light may come to know the Truth that is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
