Matthew 22:37

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”

Matthew 22:37, NKJV

One thing Jesus did when He taught is He would return to the Torah. When we think of the commands of God, we often go back to the Ten Commandments. The reality is that all commandments begin with this, which not only encapsulates the first but sets the mode for all the remaining. If we place God first in our lives, then all our relationships will be centered in that relationship. We know this because immediately following this, Jesus speaks of the neighbor. In our service to God, our neighbor will always benefit, though maybe not in the way we would think. As we walk in faithfulness to God, He brings about change within that affects the world around us. There will be those trapped who will come out to seek to be freed, and those who are under the rule of the deceiver who will attack, but the mission as followers of Christ remains clear. We are to be steadfast in our walk as our Lord is steadfast and seek to serve Him not just with a portion of who we are, but all of ourselves, and seek to reflect and lead others into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
