Galatians 6:14

But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Galatians 6:14, LSB

In a life changed by our Lord, what do we have to boast about other than our Lord and His sacrifice for us? It can be easy to take credit for things that we have done, but the transformation that comes through Christ Jesus is not our doing but His. The desires that come upon us through the power of the Holy Spirit are not something we do naturally but are the things done through His power and His transformation in our lives. As Christians, we are saved not by our actions or works but through what our Lord has done for us on the Cross; this is all we have before us. This is why many will say, “I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!” It is through His discipline that we grow and are made new. When He is all that lies before us, it is Him alone, which we can boast. Our faith would be easier if our changes came in a formula telling us which steps to take because we could then take credit, but that is not the Gospel and that is not where the blessing comes from. The blessing is from our Lord and when we acknowledge this in our lives, we may better know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
