But I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you do not do the things that you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

If we walk with our Lord Jesus Christ, we have no fear of Hell because we are claimed and are given surety in our Lord’s claim. If we are walking in the mentality of the world and are guided by our fleshly desires, when confronted with the Law, our hearts become fearful and we are uncertain, but in Christ Jesus, we are called into His Spirit and can walk in confidence. Our Lord removes all doubt, fear, and shame and calls us to Himself. When we walk in our Lord, we no longer have to wonder whether we are forgiven because our hearts will be softened to know the love of God and the certainty of His promises. In Christ, we are no longer our own, and our will is bound to Him. He is the one at work in us and through us. The war raging in our flesh is being won through His mighty hand and rule in our lives. In Christ, we are given a new heart and a new life, and with Him, we may know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
