Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.

Isaiah 61:1, MEV

As the promise was given 700 years before the coming of the Messiah by the prophet Isaiah, so the message still stands more than two millennia after His birth. It is the hope we can proclaim today as we are out and about in the world. This is our calling as the people of God. We have been given the promise, and the orders have been laid out for us! Go and preach! Not all of the followers of Christ will proclaim from a pulpit, but we all have a message to give: “Christ is here! Messiah has come! You have been set free!” These words of hope are what carry us as we can remember the imprisonment of our souls that were captive to sin and the lies of the devil. It isn’t the Law we proclaim, but the freedom of the Gospel. Let the words of our Lord resonate in our mouths and guide us in our actions. This promise that was long-awaited until our Lord Jesus Christ was born in a stable, so we sing it from our rooftops that the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings is here, and we know His name as the Prince of Peace leads us away from conflict and sets forth our pathways that lead us into His peaceful kingdom.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
