Psalm 123:3

Show grace to us, O LORD. Show grace to us, for we have had our fill of contempt.

Psalm 123:3, EHV

In periods of long-suffering, it can become easy to feel as though our Lord has forgotten us. We can struggle to believe that God is benevolent and caring. How simple during these times is it for many, like Job’s wife, to turn away from God and call others to curse His name? This is the danger of the emotional appeal some will utilize to bring another to faith. To follow God does not mean that all things will be better. Strong faith does not mean that disease will go away. We will always pray for healing, but it is also important to pray for strength for those suffering so that they may hold fast to the faith and cling to Christ for hope. There are two questions that Satan likes to use to lead many astray. The first is, “Did God really say…?” and the second is, “Why?” We can become so caught up in these questions and lose sight of what God is doing and how God can utilize every circumstance for good. As we cry out for God’s mercy and grace, we cry out to a God who is merciful and gracious and know that He hears. He may not answer as we desire, but He will always do the necessary things. God wants us to stand steadfast in the knowledge of His overarching power and reign knowing His victory has already been won and in this, know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
