For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6, ESV
We are called to think differently by God. The original sin of the garden still plagues us, as we often place our focus on things that are not of God, because we concentrate on admonitions against doing something rather than the blessings and promises of our Lord that are present all around us. The pain of sin plagues our flesh as we are faced with temptations and the shame that comes when we fail. The attacks that continue to plague our hearts that seek to drive us away from God are remnants of that fleshy desire placed within us, of which the only cure is the forgiveness and renewal of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we move our focus away from the things that plague us and look to our Lord, He offers us relief and seeks to bring us into the fullness of life and peace He alone can offer. Let our eyes be moved and our hearts be freed of this burden as we set our minds on our Lord and fully know life and peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
