For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that He would give you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being firmly rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:14–19, LSB
As we enter into this Lenten season today, we are reminded of our mortality, but we are also reminded of God’s great love for us. Each day, we are called to walk with our Lord. Like Adam and Eve in the garden, God desires to spend time with us as we pray and study His Word. As His love settles in and dwells within the tabernacle of our hearts, He seeks to speak to our hearts and transform our minds as we spend our days in His presence, and He roots us in Himself and His promises. There is so much that distracts us from Him and empties us, but our Lord desires to fill us up with Himself and His holy presence. As we turn more to Him and less to other things, we find ourselves strengthened. Ultimately, we are called into His love and a fellowship that surpasses our understanding with many brothers and sisters in Christ across the globe. We are a people united in a confession and a prayer of Christ our Lord; in this, we may find peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
