But a natural man does not accept the depths of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually examined.
1 Corinthians 2:14, LSB
Belief is a gift of God, and for those who have not received it, we, who believe, appear strange. They may even mock our beliefs and the Bible without any fear or concern. Faith can be difficult to explain because our hearts are changed, and our minds view things differently. It is a consequence of the Fall. Though once discerned, Christian faith is very logical for those of us who have received the Holy Spirit, but for those who have not yet received God’s gift to give us discernment, it only appears as a foolish fairy tale. As the Holy Spirit enters hearts, He opens eyes. Like Saul in the house praying, it wasn’t until Ananias prayed over him that he was healed of his blindness. For the unbeliever, his eyes will remain blinded to the truth of our faith until the Holy Spirit reveals it to him. For us, as followers of Christ, we are constantly having our eyes opened to more and more truth as we seek after our Lord in our prayers and as we delve deeper into His Word, which leads us deeper into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
