“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:10, ESV
As we read through the Beatitudes, most don’t seem to be things of strength, quite the contrary. They seem to be more focused not on our weakness but on God’s strength. Amid suffering, we are empowered by God to stand and proclaim His truth and sing His praises. This is contrary to the world. We strive to project strength at all times, but in Christ, our greatest strength lies in our humility. It’s not about all the great blessings that we receive in the world now, but in the salvation that is given to us and the eternal gift that we will receive as we enter into our Lord’s presence. We are called to show our love to those who are suffering, be the voice for those who have no voice, and stand with those who are being oppressed. Our lives are meant to be centered in Christ and Him alone, and no matter the circumstances we face, it is with Him we are to find our peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
