His armor bearer said to him, “Do everything that is in your heart. Give it all you’ve got! I am with you heart and soul.”
1 Samuel 14:7, EHV
Jonathan had a risky plan, but his faith was in God and the protection that God would give him. He believed that God had already won the victory, but he and the Israelite people just needed to grasp it. God wants us to be bold in our faith and in our proclamation as we stand together and boldly share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. The threats that we face ultimately have no power. The victory has been secured. Like Jonathan and his armor bearer, we can stand firm in the promises of Christ because we have the surety given to us through His death and resurrection. There will be challenges we will face, and there are times we will be nervous, but as we stand in community and face the things together, we will find that the victory is already before us when we are standing steadfast in the faith callings our Lord has prepared us for through His Word. The power of our faith is not in our solitary belief, but what it is we are called to believe as a community and how together God is preparing us for the challenges that are coming. In this, we may find peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
