Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.

Psalm 62:11–12, ESV

The all-powerful nature of God and His unending love are two attributes of God we can find comfort in. The fact that God is in control and He loves His chosen, those who call upon His name, is an assurance to us in times of hardship and grief. We don’t walk aimlessly in our times of distress, but may bow down and worship our Lord and give Him glory, knowing He will carry us through. We will not receive the full consequence of our sin, but will see great blessings from the things we do to His glory. The greatest power of our Lord is centered in His steadfast love. He did not wipe out all of creation in the flood, but spared eight people and the animals. He sent our Lord, Jesus, His Son, for our redemption. We can walk in the confidence of His love for us and seek to serve Him and praise Him at all times and in all circumstances because He is worthy of our praise. In this, we may find our peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
