For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Romans 8:18, ESV

Paul knew suffering. Suffering is inevitable in the Christian life, but the promise is what carries us through. God tests us in our faith walk, and those tests will prepare us to faithfully walk with Him. It’s not that God wants us to suffer, but He knows the human condition and suffering will be inevitable, especially in the sharing of our Lord’s word. In the times of testing, we find that our mettle is being built to withstand any of the things that will confront us. As our Lord helps us through these struggles, we will clearly see the glory that is ahead. The trappings of this world will never compare to the glory of God. The façade of worldliness is easily overcome as the destruction is more clearly revealed. The grace of our Lord stands more visibly as we come out of the darkness that descends upon bearers of the truth. As we focus on the glory, our hearts are set on the peace that comes to all who belong to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
