O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I get up; You understand my thought from far off. You search my path and my lying down and are aware of all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it fully.
Psalm 139:1–4, MEV
Nothing is hidden from God. God is not surprised. The reality of our nature is to think we are in control and to take pride in our idea of free will, yet all that free will does is bring us into rebellion against God. For those of us chosen by God, His calling for us is to place our will into submission to His. To let go and let God. He knows our hearts and our minds, and when we give it all over to Him and ask for His Word to guide us in our own, He will bring about transformation in us. In Christ, we are forgiven of our sinful thoughts, words, and actions, not to excuse them, but to release us from the burden of the harm that they cause. He also seeks to bring about change to help keep us from continually falling into the same sin and being entrapped in it. Our Lord knows all of our failures and shortcomings, yet His love for us still abounds as He seeks to lead us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
