Romans 10:4

For to everyone who believes, Christ is the end of the law, resulting in righteousness.

Romans 10:4, EHV

Some like the fire-and-brimstone preaching because it can help one to feel justified under the law. The reality, however, is that once we have Christ, the law loses its power. As Christ fulfilled the law, He removed the sting for all who believe. The sting of the Law is the death that is brought against the unbeliever. As our lives are claimed by Christ, the power of death is removed and replaced with a promise of new life, which comes with our Lord’s covering in His righteousness. It does not excuse our sin, nor are we to seek to sin, but as we realize the promise of Christ, our hearts are drawn more to Him. As we focus more on His Word and we pray for His guidance in all aspects of our lives, the distractions of this world can lessen. This is the promise our Lord gives to us as we are less ruled by the law, and its fulfillment brings about its end as the reign of Christ in our lives leads us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
