We preach Christ crucified, because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:25, EHV

To worship a God who allowed Himself to be mocked, tortured, and killed is too much for many. This was true at the time of the early Church and continues today. God is supposed to make you healthy, wealthy, and wise. This is what many still believe. Yet, the message of our Lord is humbling. If people would do these things to our God, why shouldn’t we expect the same to happen to us, His followers? No one wants to hear about suffering. Yet, Christ crucified is precisely the word which we proclaim. The cross is never removed because it is the source of our salvation. The cross is where our sins were removed from us, and the resurrection stands before us beyond the cross. Yet, the cross stands in the middle of our path, ever before us. We see it and remember the suffering of our Lord and His cries to the Father as He felt our sin. The crushing weight of our sin. It is here we proclaim our hope. It is here our promise lies. As the proud walk away, those of us humbled by our sin march on our knees into the hope that lies eternal and feel the embrace of our Lord’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
