But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Galatians 4:4–5, LSB
The timing for the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, came at a perfect crossroads of history, which has impacted how we measure our years to this day. It is from this time that we measure the time we await His return. The transformative power of Christ, who poured Himself out for us, entered creation, not as a full-grown man, but as a baby who grew and lived as one of us to suffer as a man with sickness and hunger. He did not live in luxury, but humbly as a carpenter’s son. Our Lord knows what it is to be human, and He understands the pressures of living under the law of the faith and the brutal law of our fallen creation. He knows the brutality that we face, but He reflects the love of the Father as He took it all upon Himself and gave us the hope and promise of the Kingdom. He shines His light into the world that we may all come to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
