Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
1 Corinthians 6:18, ESV
Worldliness makes sex into a recreational activity. We see this in the world today. God did not mean it for that, nor did He give it for that. God gave us the desire for this, not for self-pleasure, but as a means of creating greater intimacy as two become one flesh. It was also given for the benefit of procreation. When it is utilized selfishly, it steals from oneself and others. It becomes a divisive act and can be destructive in all relationships because life becomes disordered. Disordered desire is damaging to society as it tears at the family unit and society. People become dehumanized as they are objectified. Marriages become unstable, and children are left without the security of a mother and father. Sin builds on sin, and when we sin against ourselves, we will sin all the more easily against others. Shame enters, and hearts flee from God instead of His warm embrace. God desires for us to know His love for us, and the redemption He promises is pure, as the forgiveness flows abundantly from Him and leads us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
