“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8, ESV
We cannot will someone to faith. I am sure many of us wish we could. Many of us have that loved one who refuses to listen to the Gospel and isn’t a churchgoer. Though we cannot move anyone to believe and follow Jesus Christ but God can. As Jesus was ascending, this was the commission that He gave to His disciples as He sent them out as apostles. This is the commission He gives to us. There are a few different ways in which we find the words of commission in the Bible, but the center of them all is the power that comes is not from inside but from God as the Holy Spirit moves upon us and others. If the Holy Spirit isn’t moving someone, then they will not be one step closer to God. Yet, we are sent as witnesses not just to our families or our communities but to the ends of the earth. This isn’t supposed to be a trendy phrase, but it is a calling given to us by our Lord. It is our commission as His followers. It is through His power that we may know Him. Let Him use us to be His light in others' lives, so together we may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
