Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”
Zechariah 3:1–2, NKJV
For twenty years, Joshua was unable to fulfill the calling, as high priest, that had been placed on his heart. His spirit was struggling, and the prophet Zechariah was given this vision to buoy him up. We often face struggles, and they can be discouraging. Yet, God calls us, and He continues to provide us the means to go on. It is the accuser, Satan, who seeks to deceive and sows the seeds of doubt in the world. As we find ourselves in times of struggle, it is good to cry out to the Lord, knowing He hears us, and we may find that He will send us one to encourage us. Be attentive to the urgings of the Holy Spirit and listen to the words placed on your heart, as they may be meant to bring encouragement to another. Let us be faithful as we move ahead and seek to be the light to those in darkness and receive the light from those bringing us words of comfort. In this, we may all come to know our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
