So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts. ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’ ”
Zechariah 4:6–7, NKJV
God’s purposes cannot be thwarted. What God desires to restore, He will restore. What God desires to build, He will build. No matter the odds. He uses us, as imperfect as we are, to complete His work. Sometimes, we like to think we can do it through our own strength, but it is not our power that is the change maker. It is God working through us that brings about any and all change. Jesus showed His humanity when He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours.” Though He was God the Son, He submitted to God the Father. We are called to submit and ask God to work through us. This isn’t for notoriety, we will probably know suffering in God’s working through us. We are God’s and that is where His work begins. We belong to Him and He is the One who will bring the transformation in us and through us. As His people, God will shine out His glory. As Zerubbabel was given the task to rebuild the Temple after the Babylonian captivity of the Jewish people, so are we given the power to bring Christ to all caught up in the captivity of the deceiver and in Him find peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
