In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our transgressions, according to the riches of His grace.
Ephesians 1:7, LSB
Our forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is complete and the fabric that once separated us from God is torn away. The greatest obstacle to our forgiveness and salvation is ourselves. We have difficulty submitting to our Lord and laying all of ourselves down before Him. We like to hold back and act like there is a middle path to Christ, but for God, it is all or nothing. Thankfully, our God is merciful and gracious. He is the actor in this great theater of life, and we are the passive receivers of His grace. When the conviction hits, it breaks us, kills us, and reforms us as our Lord strikes the heart of the hearer and reveals all that is broken so He may remove it and bring us back to Himself. This is not a one-time event, but continuous work being done upon us as the waters of forgiveness wash away the dirty sin and make us new and clean as we prepare to enter His presence. One day we will all be called home to Him and it will be apparent who was on the narrow path to Christ and who tried other ways. No one leaves this world unscathed, and the narrow path is difficult because it forces us to leave behind all our burdens and come empty before our God and pours upon us His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
