Genesis 47:11–12

Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them property in the land of Egypt, in the best part of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all of his father’s household with food, based on the number in their families.

Genesis 47:11–12, EHV

Joseph could have held a grudge against his siblings. However, Joseph made sure that not only was his father provided for, but also his brothers and his brother's children. God had revealed to Joseph His purposes and had placed forgiveness in his heart. Honor to God is shown not only in care for our elders but also in how we extend that care to the family, as we are called to be mindful of the needs of our loved ones and to seek to be of benefit to them and to all people. As we realize the forgiveness we have received, it becomes easier to forgive the wrongs done against us. Just as Joseph forgave his brothers, so are we to forgive those who harm us. Our Lord provides, and out of His providence, we, too, may care for those whom we love. In this care, we reflect the great mercy that our Lord has for all of creation and may shine His light that leads to His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
