Good and upright is the LORD; therefore, He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way.
Psalm 25:8–9, NKJV
As we look to the early followers of Jesus Christ, we can understand why they called themselves "The Way." It is hard to teach the self-righteous. But when we walk in the way of our Lord, we walk in the realization that we are sinners and, if led by our own desires, we are hopeless. It is Jesus who enters in to show us the way as we are humbled in the realization of our sinfulness. In our humility, our Lord crafts us and shapes us into something new. He transforms lives that otherwise would be in an endless loop of self-justification and struggle. This was the issue with God’s chosen, Israel. It continued with the people of Judah and remains today. For those who wish to feel justified and righteous in their own accord find themselves outside, but for those who are humbled, the way is made clear. A just heart is revealed through our Lord’s guidance, and righteous pathways are revealed as our Lord leads us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
