Mark 14:9

Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

Mark 14:9, NKJV

We all remember Mary of Bethany because she sat to hear Jesus teach and poured out the expensive oil for His anointing. Her actions are remembered because of her faithfulness. She did neither of these in order to gain favor, but her heart was drawn to these actions. God desires for our hearts and our devotion. We are called to seek the pleasure of One in our lives. Mary was criticized for these things. She was criticized because she wasn’t busy helping her sister in preparations and pouring out and wasting such an expensive oil. As we live lives more devoted to our Lord and His calling, we will have our critics. You will find them in all avenues of life. It is easy to allow those voices to wear us down. For Mary, I am sure she had her days. This is why we are called to fellowship with fellow believers and seek edification when we feel torn down and distraught. We can find strength in the faith of those who struggled in the past as we read their stories. As we join with other brothers and sisters in Christ, we can stand and prepare one another as we pray and put upon ourselves the full armor of God preparing to march on our knees with heads bowed and hearts turned to God. Be reminded through Mary’s witness how God will honor the work of His faithful and when bombarded by the chaos of the world we may know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
