You were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked when you followed the ways of this present world. You were following the ruler of the domain of the air, the spirit now at work in the people who disobey. Formerly, we all lived among them in the passions of our sinful flesh, as we carried out the desires of the sinful flesh and its thoughts. Like all the others, we were by nature objects of God’s wrath.
Ephesians 2:1–3, EHV
Life and death. That is the reality of our faith. To walk in rebellion against God offers only death, but in Christ Jesus, we have been afforded forgiveness and salvation. To walk in the carnality of this world leaves us vulnerable and exposed to the whims of what the demonic desires to put upon us. The gift of our Lord is that He rescues us from the threats that face us and gives us a new way, a new life. We will be changed, not because we are actively working out our faith, but because God is working something new within us. Prayer is our most powerful tool and our most powerful weapon against the dark forces that attempt to block our paths and remove our hope. The power of our Lord’s salvation is greater than anything that attempts to ensnare and entrap those of us who belong to the Lord as we walk in the battlefield of souls and seek to be a light to lead others into our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
