He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.”
Matthew 13:24–25, ESV
We often can get confused, and people are too easily led astray. The worldly thinking and the ideas of what is good and what is evil can become confused. The waves of thought and the trends of society are ever-changing, causing people to lose clarity and understanding, and leading them to find comfort in their own thinking as they get caught up in their enthusiasm and self-enjoyment. We hear the cries of many as they witness the chaos and the cacophony of worldliness, wishing for our Lord’s prompt return. Our Lord, however, is patient as He knows when the time of fulfillment will be, and His chosen are under His fold. It isn’t God who does the evil, but He allows it to exist alongside His chosen. All this He does for our protection so all whom He has called may come into His mercy and grace. He desires none of His chosen to be lost, but calls us to preach His Gospel to bring all to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
