“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

The Father so loves His chosen that He utilized the only means He could to lead His chosen out of the slavery of sin. As Moses did for the children of Israel, He sent His Son to accomplish what only He could. The cost of our sin could only be paid through the purest of sacrifice, and through Jesus, the payment covered all creation for all time. The altar, a cross, and the high priest, Jesus. The nails were pounded by soldiers, but the one presiding was the sacrifice. His words as the weight of sin bore down on Him, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do,” and “My God, my God! Why have You forsaken Me?” The culmination in three words, “It is finished!” We hear His love through His acceptance. We know His love by His forgiveness. We receive His love and enter into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
