Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”
Job 2:3, NKJV
In our fallen, sin-sick world, suffering is a reality that we all will face. Our own sin causes some of it, some by the sin of others, some by the state of our world, and some by God allowing us to be tested. We are not always aware of the “whys,” but we mustn’t lose sight of who it is that is ultimately in control. God is in charge, no matter what. God is not answerable to us. We are answerable to God. In times of suffering, our true character is revealed. Our faith, or lack thereof, will be evident. We can cry out to God. Job did. David did. Jesus called to His Father in the Garden. Our calling is to trust in God no matter what circumstances we face. We know that the adversary, Satan, has no real power. He may create suffering, but he cannot make us lose faith, do evil, or think wrongly. He may only tempt us to doubt God, lose faith, or fall into other sins. God calls us to keep our focus on Him and seek after His face in all circumstances, so we may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
