For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Galatians 5:13, ESV
As followers of Christ, we have been set apart. We find throughout the Scriptures the difficulty that people have as God’s chosen people. The issue of idolatry abounds in our hearts, leading us down various paths away from the ways in which we have been called to live. We are tempted by fleshly desires every way we turn. We have been called to freedom by our Lord as He removed the stain of sin from our lives. To live as a people who are no longer to live lives taken over by sin, but the siren call of the fleshly world is still around us, and the weakness of our spirits is revealed. It is to our Lord we are to turn, and it is one another we are to assist in our journey to keep from falling into the mire and muck of sin. We don’t walk with wagging fingers, but with helping hands always ready to be of assistance. This is the freedom of our calling as we seek to build a world with a greater theology of life instead of one caught up in death and destruction. We are called to serve one another as we seek to fight against unnecessary division, but seek to be bearers of His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
